The State syllabus textbooks from classes one to 10 that are under scrutiny and are being reviewed by different committees, headed by writer Baragur Ramachandrappa, will be revised from the 2017–18 academic year. Sources in Karnataka Textbook Society (KTBS) said tenders for textbooks for the 2016–17 academic year would have to be called next month and printing would begin in December.

At a meeting convened by the KTBS for members of all the committees on Tuesday, Mr. Ramachandrappa said the committees would require more time so that they could study in depth and revise the textbooks. The government, in December last, appointed 185 members and 27 committees to revise 352 titles in seven mediums.
The State government textbooks have been mired in controversy for the past two academic years after academicians and the Committee for Resisting Saffronisation of Textbooks in Karnataka alleged that there were several cases of “objectionable” content and labelled them as “blatant attempt to saffronise textbooks”. ‘Review Nali Kali’ Mr. Ramachandrappa also urged the government to review the Nali Kali model, an interactive teaching methodology used for classes one, two and three in government schools.
